  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Some PDFs aren’t accessible to screen reader software. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2. Most PDFs have currently been disabled.
  • Some images may be missing alternative text. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.1.1. We regularly review the site to ensure all images are compliant and will immediately remedy any images that are missing alt text.

Disproportionate burden

  • A number of features on this website require Javascript to be enabled in the browser. This includes the menu toggle in the header when displayed on a mobile device, the table of contents on guidance pages, and the checkbox filters on the assets and artwork page. When Javascript is disabled, these features are either disabled or an alternative is provided.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
